Shannon, originally from North Dakota but now residing in Connecticut with her husband and three children, knew she needed a change. As a one-on-one mental health para in a local middle school, her life was busy and stressful, and her weight had become an ongoing struggle. Shannon had always been on the heavier side, but after her first pregnancy, the weight became more noticeable and persistent. She found herself turning to food for comfort, to relieve stress, to stay awake, and even as a reward. But as her children grew older, Shannon felt increasingly frustrated with her inability to engage with them fully—she lacked the energy, desire, and flexibility to play and be active with her kids.

In search of a solution, Shannon discovered Live in Fitness Retreat and knew it was time to take action. “I had been doing a medical weight loss program and had lost 34 pounds, but then it stopped working. I was eating the same way, yet I started to gain weight again. I was getting extremely frustrated and knew I really needed to shake things up and start an exercise program,” Shannon recalls. Her frustration and determination led her to make the decision to attend Live in Fitness Retreat.

When Shannon arrived at the Retreat, she had clear expectations. “I expected to learn how to do exercises correctly, how to build an exercise routine at home, and how to eat properly to support exercise while still losing weight.” And she wasn’t disappointed. “I love my progress so far. I’m starting to notice small changes in my arms and legs,” Shannon says with pride.

What worked best for Shannon was the structured schedule and the meals prepared by the coaches. “The schedule developed by the coaches and the meals prepared are working well,” she shares. Her favorite parts of the program? “I have liked all my classes! All the coaches are great to work with and very supportive. My two favorite things were the personal training sessions and the physio sessions. Both really helped me to work out more effectively and efficiently.”

Shannon’s time at the Retreat has completely changed her outlook on life. “I’m actually looking forward to returning home and getting into my own workout routine. I feel stronger mentally and know I will succeed because my husband and I did this together, and we are both determined to make it work.”

It is worth it.” Her mantra throughout the challenging moments was simple yet powerful: “I can do it. I got this!” Shannon encourages others to find a quote or mantra that resonates with them and hold onto it. “Let’s go! You can do this. You can do it!”
