As an IT professional, Sonya’s job is demanding and requires frequent travel. Over time, she began to see a significant increase in her weight. “I started a new role two years ago that involved a lot of travel. My weight started creeping up, and before I realized it, I had gained 20 pounds within the first year. I normally weigh 160 pounds, but I found myself uncomfortably close to 200—reaching 188.”

Not being where she wanted to be affected Sonya deeply. “I was worried about being the weakest link—unable to support my family or protect myself. I felt helpless. Normally, if I gained weight, I could take care of it. But this time, I felt out of control. I wasn’t preparing my meals, I wasn’t sleeping well since I was always in a different bed, and traveling alone made me feel lonely. As a result, I turned to food for comfort. I couldn’t resist walking past a restaurant with tempting smells without indulging. I kept thinking, ‘Maybe I’ll have that tomorrow.’ I had no self-control.”

Sonya added, “Not sleeping and not being able to plan my meals were my biggest struggles. I was never a fan of the gym; I preferred walking. But my travel schedule made it hard to maintain consistent habits. Signing up for a gym didn’t make sense since I was always on the move. Sometimes, the hotel gyms were poorly equipped. There was always something that made it seem less than ideal.”

Determined to break out of this rut, Sonya decided to give Live in Fitness a try. Before arriving, she had set realistic expectations. “I expected accountability—that was my biggest need. I wanted someone to hold me to high standards. Honestly, I thought I wouldn’t see any major results; I was hoping just to lose three pounds. That would’ve been enough. Yesterday, when I was tempted to call an Uber, I used some of the affirmations I’ve picked up here. I thought, ‘I can either sit on my butt for 30 minutes or get to paradise in 30 minutes.’ So, I powered through and got those calories burned. It gave me a sense of accomplishment and positive thoughts. The group classes have also been a great boost.”

Her favorite class? “The team bonding workout. It encourages you to keep moving and contribute at your own pace. When others step up, it inspires you to do the same. My second favorite is the spin class—that one made me sweat! As for food, anything with salmon or a salad with fruit and nuts has been a hit for me. Super delicious!”
